50 fires burning across Colville Reservation

OMAK LAKE — Several lightning-caused fires flared up Saturday on the Colville Tribes Reservation south of Omak Lake. Helicopters were called in from Omak and Wenatchee through the Northeast Washington Interagency Communications Center in Colville Saturday afternoon to aid smokejumpers attacking the Roaring Creek Fire near the Sandpoil River.

DRYDEN — Three hefty tugs and the rescuers pulled Chris Totten's seemingly lifeless body out of the Wenatchee River. Totten flopped over the side of the rescue raft, his face smashed against the boat's watery floor.

SPOKANE — The Spokane RiverHawks snapped Wenatchee's six-game winning streak with a 4-3 victory Saturday at Gonzaga University. Chris Escobar hit a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning to cut Wenatchee's deficit to one, but a Gino Aielli ground-out ended the rally with a runner stranded on third.
Quiet Fourth helps firefighters get upper hand on blazes

WENATCHEE — When the first fireworks exploded, people began to gasp and clap. The loud bangs and crowd reactions mixed with the sounds of tripped car alarms throughout Walla Walla Point Park Friday night.
