Rehabilitation blues
By Jefferson Robbins World staff writer

Darik Peet, left, and Michael Dickes solo together with their band Days of the Dove, in concert in Wenatchee's Centennial Park. Dickes, 41, spent much of the summer in treatment for alcoholism and depression. While there, the longtime NCW musician recorded a song that appears on a new soundtrack CD, "Henry Poole Is Here." Michael Dickes went to a dark place to cut his highest-profile recording.

Before they broke hearts
The misadventure began, as so many do, in a dingy Florida strip club. This one was called Dub's, and it was cinder-block roadhouse in Gainesville where, in the early 1970s, a dancer named Bubbles shimmied for students, townies and truck drivers while a band with the unfortunate name of Mudcrutch played muscular music that melded old-man country with new-kid rock. It was a Southern solution to the British Invasion.
Your best bet
The fun launched Tuesday in Moses Lake, and continues on through Saturday. Aside from livestock showings, this year's Grant County Fair brings the Doo-Wah Riders, stage magician Farrell Dillon, the Rockin' B Cloggers and the Grant and Adams County Old Time Fiddlers. Get daily entry for $7 at the adult price, $5 students for students and seniors, with an $18 armband that gets you access to all carnival rides all day long. Call 765-3581, Ext. 34 or visit gcfair.grantcountyweb.com for info.
Hidden Lake Trail
Access: Going west on Highway 2, turn right at Coles Corner onto County Road 207. Turn onto the Cedar Brae Road (south shore of Lake Wenatchee) and travel approximately 5 miles to the Hidden Lake trailhead.

Take summer sports indoors
The Beijing Olympics are under way. And thanks to NBC and its assorted networks and Web sites, you're able to spend the days pondering the intricacies of sports you never cared about before.
High times: 'Autobiography' details duo's comedy career
In September, Cheech and Chong will reunite for a tour, 26 years after their last live performance. That is, if Cheech doesn't read Tommy Chong's newest book, "Cheech & Chong: The Unauthorized Autobiography."
'Thunder' is anything but subtle
Opposites do more than attract in Ben Stiller's unapologetic R-rated comedy "Tropic Thunder" — they loudly and defiantly collide. Simultaneously smart and dumb, mixing clever satire with way over-the-top raunch and unrelenting profanity, this equal opportunity offender risks running off some of the very people who might appreciate it the most.
'Fly Me' features a decent 3-D, bug-sized story
A well-intentioned exercise at blending education and family entertainment, the 3-D animated tale "Fly Me to the Moon" ends up only mildly educational and not all that entertaining.
'Clone Wars': Fun but forgettable knock-off
You'll know you're in a different galaxy within the first seconds of "Star Wars: The Clone Wars," which substitutes the Warner Bros. logo and theme music for the familiar 20th Century Fox searchlight and fanfare.

A perfect day for Petty
Abby Holmes
I was lucky enough to enjoy an impromptu trip to the Gorge last Friday to see Tom Petty. Steve “Stevie” Winwood opened the show. Man, can that guy wail on the guitar. One more Louisiana Gator Boy to check off my list. As for Petty, he gets an A+ in showmanship. He really indulges in the power [...]
